Terry M. Knowles held the position of Assistant Director of Charitable Trusts at the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office for 38 years. She served as President of the National Association of State Charity Officials in 1991 and 2006 and served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Nonprofits in Washington D.C. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the New Hampshire Association of Nonprofits, and the New Hampshire Historical Society. She serves on the N.H. Funders Forum Philanthropy Advisory Group and NHCN’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force.
During her career Terry participated in Harvard University/Hauser Center’s Joint Seminar on Emerging Issues in Philanthropy and presented workshops at Columbia Law School, Boston College Law School, and the ARNOVA Symposium on Public Policy. Her articles include The New Community Benefits Law, and The Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act published in the New Hampshire Bar Journal, Emerging Nonprofit and Foundation Enforcement Issues published in The Nonprofit Quarterly, and Amending or Terminating Conservation Easements: The New Hampshire Experience published in the Utah Environmental Law Review. She is an adjunct professor at the Carsey School of Public Policy at UNH teaching negotiation skills and nonprofit management.
