Shannon Monnat, PhD, is an associate professor of Sociology and the Lerner Chair for Public Health Promotion in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Her research examines U.S. population health along the rural-urban continuum. Her most recent research focuses on spatial differences in opioid misuse and mortality and other diseases and deaths of despair. Shannon holds a PhD in Sociology from the University at Albany, State University of New York.
