Carsey Degree: Master in Public Policy

Can you describe your most valuable takeaway from your master's program?

The two most important classes that I took during my time at  the Carsey School that I was able to directly apply to my work were the courses relating to negotiations, the media, and communications. During my time at Planned Parenthood Action Fund, I did a lot of communications work with writing letters to the editor, creating pitches to journalists, and writing social media posts. The courses really helped with developing my tone and messaging for the postion and the organization.

What are 1 or 2 career goals you have for yourself?

I would like to continue working in the non-profit sector in public affairs.

The Carsey School's Washington, D.C., Colloquium gives students front-row access to meetings with public policy institutions. Students learn about career paths across multiple sectors, discuss the current policy landscape, and connect with working professionals for networking and career building opportunities.
