Resilient Community Development Finance Training
The Center for Impact Finance (CIF) has developed a certification course on resilience for and through community development finance, with a primary focus on climate resilience, and is seeking participants for a pilot cohort of the virtual, instructor-led course. The audience for the pilot course includes mission-driven community lenders such as community development financial institutions (CDFIs), community development credit unions (CDCUs), community development banks, Minority Depository Institutions (MDIs), and green banks.
The course will introduce participants to:
- best practices for impact measurement and management (including carbon accounting),
- due diligence and underwriting practices for assessing and building resilience,
- adaptation and mitigation strategies, and
- existing resources for building resilience for their own organization as well as their borrowers and communities.
The course curriculum includes three (3) interactive sessions on Zoom as well as self-paced work, for a total commitment of approximately 20 hours. Pilot participants will test and help refine the course design and content. Interactive Zoom sessions will include guest lectures/panels, facilitated discussion, simulated problem solving, and Q&A. Self-paced work will include readings, recorded lectures, and worksheets/books. Topics will include an overview of clean energy finance (energy efficiency, renewable energy, and storage), decarbonization strategies, supporting environmentally sustainable enterprises, and building resilience at each capital moment.
